Hibari 1.5.7 Feb 26, 2013

  • Updated to Twitter’s 1.1 API.
  • Search results now have conversation support and link unwrapping. Unfortunately, Twitter no longer provides search term highlighting. We’ll reimplement the feature in a future release.

Hibari 1.5.6 Jan 8, 2013

  • Fixed thumbnails. Updated URLs to link to the lightbox version of the images.
  • When you reply to a direct message you sent, Hibari now composes a direct message to the recipient instead to yourself.
  • Fixed bug where some direct messages would not be selectable when navigating via keyboard.
  • Fixed old bug where Hibari would truncate direct messages after a newline.

Hibari 1.5.5 Sep 28, 2012

  • Updated dock icon for retina displays.
  • Added “Retweet With Comment” as a hidden preference. See the Hibari User Guide to enable.
  • Added HJKL (vim-style) keyboard navigation as a hidden preference.
  • Updated to Growl 2 and restored Growl option for OS X 10.8 users. If you’re on 10.8 and Growl isn’t installed or running, there will be a Notification Center option instead.

Hibari 1.5.4 Jul 26, 2012

  • Added support for Mac OS X 10.8’s Gatekeeper security feature. Note: For each of your Twitter accounts, you will be prompted to reauthorize Hibari’s Keychain access. Please click “Always Allow.”
  • Uses Notification Center instead of Growl on Mac OS X 10.8.
  • Displays 24-hour or 12-hour time based on your system preferences.

  • Improved handling of invalid XML data from Twitter (fixes issue with main timeline not loading).
  • Updated URLs to link to the large version of the image.
  • Fixed bug where tweet selection was lost if using “Maintain Scroll Position: When not at top” setting and scrolled to top, then changing accounts or restarting.
  • Fixed issue with replying to a tweet that starts with @username(linebreak).

Hibari 1.5.2 May 21, 2012

  • Better handling of invalid UTF-8 text caused by a Twitter bug involving emoji and URLs (fixes the “multiple validation errors” issue).
  • For Lion trackpad users, changed color in the “pull down” region to gray.

Hibari 1.5.1 Jan 24, 2012

  • Demo version: Updated title bar price tag to reflect new price.

Hibari 1.5 Jan 24, 2012

What’s New:

  • Multiple accounts support.
  • Support for link unwrapping.
  • Ability to block text or mute users from the timeline contextual menu.
  • Toolbar notifications: Buttons are highlighted when there are new tweets, configurable in Preferences.
  • Improved compose field now grows or shrinks to fit text; also allows a custom height.
  • Added a shortcut for opening URLs in tweets: Cmd-right arrow. If there’s no conversation, just right arrow also works.
  • Now remembers your scroll position and selected tweet between launches or account switches.
  • Compose field now complies with Twitter’s automatic link shortening.
  • Added Instagram and thumbnail support.
  • Mark as Spam option available in the contextual menu for tweets sent by users you don’t follow.
  • Added a preference for opening all links in background.
  • Copy Full URL option in the contextual menu.
  • Instantaneous results when adding/deleting mute & block settings in the Preferences window.
  • A tweet started with Cmd-R or clicking Reply retains the “reply to” tweet id if the “reply to” username exists anywhere in the tweet (before it required that the name was in the beginning).
  • Replying to a retweet now inserts both the names of the retweeter and retweeted in the tweet field.  It will retain the ‘reply to’ tweet id if the username of either the retweeter or retweeted exists in the tweet.
  • The 6-second Twitter timeout now doubles on every retry.  There’s also a user defaults setting to customize it.
  • Timeline performance improvements.

  • Fixed issue where, when Twitter is slow, sent tweets don’t immediately appear in the timeline.
  • Fixed issues with Growl: it would show filtered tweets, display raw HTML for search result tweets, and sometimes display too many Growl notifications at once.
  • New filter/mute/search items now appear at the top of the list rather than at the bottom.
  • Fixed issue where some conversation threads including a reweet would show the retweeter’s name rather than the original tweeter’s name.
  • Fixed issue where after deleting one’s own tweet, it would sometimes reappear in the timeline upon refresh.

Hibari 1.1.5 Jul 20, 2011

What’s New:

  • Workaround for Lion bug involving the “Look Up in Dictionary” feature.
  • Hibari can now import and export Timeline Settings (Keyword Block, Mute and Saved Searches).
  • Add timelineDisplayCount hidden preference.

Hibari 1.1.4 Jun 30, 2011

What’s New:

  • Updated Hibari to comply with Twitter’s new permissions process. Our login sheet now displays Twitter’s permissions screen. Note: All users will need to re-login.

Hibari 1.1.3 Nov 28, 2010

What’s New:

  • Preference for displaying timestamps on all tweets instead of only on the selected tweet.
  • Preference for displaying full names instead of usernames.
  • Immunized against Twitpocalypse 3: Snowflake From Hell.
  • You can now disable mentions in the main timeline from users you don’t follow (thanks @gruber). See the Hibari User Guide for more info.
  • You can now filter tweets that are mentions by including your @username in the setting. E.g. if your username is @justin, and you want to block mentions that include the word “bieber,” create a keyword block setting for @justin bieber. (Thanks @justin.)
  • You can now customize Hibari’s timeline appearance with a user stylesheet. You can also enable WebKit’s Web Inspector contextual menu item to understand Hibari’s element structure. See the Hibari User Guide to learn how to customize Hibari.
  • JSTalk support. You can now script Hibari to access the currently selected tweet (-selectedTweet) and post a tweet (-tweet:). See the Hibari User Guide for more info.
  • CSS improvements. When the main window is too narrow, timestamps will now overlap the username instead of wrapping erratically.
  • Improved link detection. Should have fewer false positives and catch a few more cases.
  • Debugging log window can now be closed if accidentally opened.
  • New sections have been added to the Hibari User Guide: Keyboard Shortcuts and Advanced & Hidden Features.

Hibari 1.1.2 Oct 20, 2010

Bug fixes:

  • Phrases in the pattern of “xxxxx…xx” will no longer be treated as a link.
  • Resolved a link detection issue where certain sequences of characters could cause the app to hang. (Thanks to @tjw for the debugging help!)

Hibari 1.1.1 Oct 9, 2010

What’s New:

  • Improved URL parsing. (New multipass URL detection engine.)

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed bug where URLs without the “http://” would not open in the browser.
  • Pressing Return while using an input method (such as Kotoeri, for writing in Japanese) no longer triggers a tweet send or new line (thanks @brandelune).
  • When deleting a saved search item, the search results no longer appear suddenly in the main timeline (thanks @aireeus).
  • Fixed a bug where Twitpic links prefixed with non-lowercase “http://” would, when clicked, cause the page to be opened within Hibari, and cause two other weird pages to be opened in the browser (thanks @bpapa).

Hibari 1.1 Sep 21, 2010

What’s New:

  • New app icon!
  • URL shortening. You can access it via the Edit menu or with Command-Option-S.
  • Expand or collapse conversation threads with the right and left arrow keys. Holding down right arrow will expand the entire conversation.
  • Use Command-click to open links in the background.
  • Page through your timeline with Space/Shift-Space.
  • Performance improvements. Hibari should be a lot more responsive during loading.
  • Major foundational improvements that should prevent gaps in the timeline. When fetching new tweets, Hibari will automatically detect and fill in gaps.
  • Hibari now remembers your unsent tweet between launches (thanks @fetjuel, @uliwitness).
  • Added a Software Updates pane to Preferences, where you can adjust your auto-update settings and opt in to getting beta releases from now on.
  • Rudimentary Instapaper support. Right-clicking on links will offer an “Instapaper” menu item if you've entered your Instapaper username and password via user defaults commands (there’s no UI for it yet). Here’s how to enable it.
  • After you send a tweet, Hibari now switches your focus to the timeline.
  • Changed retweet confirmation dialog to a sheet. Renamed OK button to “Retweet” (thanks @gruber). Same thing for delete confirmation.
  • The “More” buttons now turn a light gray during conversation loading.
  • Added ability to auto-recover from a corrupted tweet database upon launching (thanks @jonmarimba, @scarequotes).

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed bug where hitting Command-Delete while typing in the text field (to delete current line) would hide the currently selected tweet.
  • Replying to a tweet that gets promoted to a mention while you type should no longer raise an exception (thanks @McCarron).

Hibari 1.0.3 Aug 26, 2010

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue (just in 1.0.2) where we disabled the tweet contextual menu and forgot to put it back. Thanks to @cdfinder for catching this.

Hibari 1.0.2 Aug 26, 2010

What’s New:

  • Added a preference for Maintain Scroll Position. Can be set to “Always” or “When not at top” (old/default behavior).
  • Added several more font sizes. Choose from 11 pt to 20 pt.
  • Made some memory-usage improvements.
  • Purchase menu now disappears after you've purchased the app.

Bug fixes:

  • Vastly improved URL detection (thanks to @gruber for the code). Should fix issues with parentheses, hyphens, colons, and special characters.

Hibari 1.0.1 Aug 21, 2010

What’s New:

  • You can now use Tab to move between the New Tweet field and the timeline. (If you really need to tweet a tab character, you'll have to just copy and paste one in for now :).)
  • You can use Cmd-N to move to the New Tweet field.
  • We now disable the tweet field (and turn the text gray) during the Twitter send process, so it’s more clear what’s going on. (Especially important on slow connections and during slow-Twitter times.)
  • Removed Cmd-1 and Cmd-2 for Favorite and Reply. Now, Cmd-1, Cmd-2, Cmd-3, and Cmd-4 can be used to switch between the four timelines. (If you preferred the old shortcuts, you can configure Hibari in System Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > (click + button).)
  • Added New Tweet menu item, and removed the unnecessary Save menu item.
  • Increased the “Mark as Favorite” timeout for better experience.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a bug that occurred when you tried to drag images onto webview. (Thanks @rob_rix!)
  • Fixed an assertion error where we try to delete a conversation error as if it were a normal (Thanks @SteveStreza!)
  • Fixed a bug where after loading 5,000 tweets, Hibari would get a lot slower.
  • Fixed a bug where after loading 5,000 tweets, you would get attacked by ancient Growl notifications on every fetch.
